Проте Ірена продовжує боротьбу за життя... Два полюси ставлення до Ірени: стоїчний, тихий і непохитний захист цієї зовсім чужої їй жінки, до того ж колишньої коханої її чоловіка, з боку Ганни Малецької і шпигунство господині будинку Петровської – уособлення міщанства, глибинного антисемітизму і хамства.
