Фільм оповідає про життя великого індійського правителя і вчителя людства Махатми Ґанді. Починаючи з його приїзду в південну Африку в 1893-му році і закінчуючи післявоєнною Індією - Ґанді завжди й скрізь проповідував тільки мирну боротьбу, мирну відповідь будь-якому насильству. І якщо спочатку це виглядало просто смішним для багатьох, то через півстоліття світ дізнався, що проста і одночасно велика людина привела свою країну до повної незалежності від англійських колонізаторів. Людина, яка самотужки змінила світ, вказавши мільйонам шлях. Багато разів я вже висловлювався про те, що насильство може породити тільки відповідне насильство. Однак, бачачи сцени побиття і навіть розстрілу мирних індійських демонстрацій англійцями в серці розгорається скажений вогонь. У Ґанді за спиною - п'ятитисячолітня духовна мудрість її народу, яку, як виявилося, не так-то просто здолати мушкетами і затоптати солдатськими чобітьми. У 1983-му році він виграв вісім Оскарів.

Людина, яка самотужки змінила світ, вказавши мільйонам шлях. Багато разів я вже висловлювався про те, що насильство може породити тільки відповідне насильство. Однак, бачачи сцени побиття і навіть розстрілу мирних індійських демонстрацій англійцями в серці розгорається скажений вогонь. У Ґанді за спиною - п'ятитисячолітня духовна мудрість її народу, яку, як виявилося, не так-то просто здолати мушкетами і затоптати солдатськими чобітьми. У 1983-му році він виграв вісім Оскарів.
