Події фільму відбуваються на кухні одного з ресторанів у Нью-Йорку. Роботу в цьому ресторані отримує юна Естелліта з Мексики, і на її очах розгортається яскраве і різноманітне життя колективу, що складається переважно з латиноамериканців. Події відбуваються протягом одного дня і виглядають вони в багатьох аспектах умовно: інтер'єри виконані в стилі 1950-х років, герої явно не чули про стільниковий зв'язок, помітні елементи сюрреалізму.Літературною основою сценарію стала п'єса Арнольда Вескера «Кухня» (1957), яку в 1961 році екранізував Джеймс Хілл. Руїспаласіош переніс місце дії з Лондона в Нью-Йорк.

Eligio will try to charm his way through this situation, but her determination plus the foreign land and culture he finds himself in, will force him to face his own demons and contradictions. It is a journey of late growth; funny, painful and -in an unconventional sort of way- very romantic.

Years later, ChuyÃn lives locked up in a Mansion in Paris and is about to launch a new CD and go on an international tour. However, the ghosts of his past and the loneliness of his future, make ChuyÃn change his plans and he decides to go back to the town where Cornelio and him lived when they were children, to embark on the last musical adventure of Los Jilgueros del Rosarito. A movie for the whole family coming to theatres soon.
