Prince Wang is the 11th prince of Manchuria and an excellent martial artist, but prefers not to draw attention to himself and keeps a low profile, posing as a merchant who deals in wine, antiques and paintings. He has a run-in with Ho Jen, a simple thief who makes a living by stealing and spending loot wherever he can. The Prince takes a liking to the thief and enlists him to be his bodyguard, something Ho takes to very reluctantly at first. But when a conspiracy unfolds and the Prince is targeted for assassination, Ho must undertake a serious training regime to protect his master.

When the boy beats up his previous tormentors, the nobles patriarch challenges the boys teacher, the drunken master, who defeats the lot of them. Embarrased, the nobles retain two hired snake style killers, one of whom is the expert that that was beaten by the monkey style. They kill everyone except the peasant boy, feeling he is to weak and unskilled to be worth their honour. The peasant combines drunken' boxing with monkey style in an attempt to put down the snake killers.

Chi Ming-sing is a former disciple of a gang run by overlord Yoh Xi-hung. Yoh's disciples hunt Chi relentlessly as he travels on a soul-searching journey. The man Chi saved starts following him on the road, explaining that he's looking for someone who committed a grievous, unforgivable wrong. As the two travel on the road, it starts to become clear that Chi's companion is more than he seems: he's actually a very skilled martial artist, and his boots contain short blades that he can attach to his sleeves. Chi finally tells his companion his story: he's seeking out a renowned swordsman named Cheuk Yi-fan... not to kill him, but to die at his hand. Chi is haunted of the last job he did with the gang, slaughtering many of Cheuk's family and friends... and Chi himself slew Cheuk's pregnant wife.
