1740. Англійські війська намагаються відбити у французів їх північноамериканські колонії і втягують в цю війну індіанців. У руки гуронов, яких французи нацькували на делаварів, потрапляє Ватава, донька вождя, обіцяна Чингачгуку. Він збирається звільнити її за допомогою свого друга Звіробоя. Неподалік від табору гуронів вони зіштовхуються з мисливцями за скальпами. Чингачгук потрапляє в полон до гуронів. Він намагається переконати їх, що індіанцям немає справи до війни між білими. Але це йому не вдається. Тим часом один з мисливців приводить англійських солдатів, які вщент розбивають гуронів. Тепер їх важко поранений вождь розуміє, що Чингачгук був правий. Чи зуміють Чингачгук, Ватава і Звіробій вижити в цій різанині?..
Сюжет
