Сюжет
Україна, 1946 рік. Командир повстанського загону Орест разом зі своєю вагітною дружиною Євою та кількома бійцями переховується в схроні. Повстанців оточує загін НКВД. Капітан загону Змієв ставить Ореста перед вибором: видати йому Єву або прийняти нерівний бій.

За мотивами поезії Тараса Шевченка «За байраком байрак» з циклу «У казематі».У останній третині XVIII ст. гетьман уклав союз з турками, маючи намір з їхньою допомогою захопити Річ Посполиту. На знак вдячності туркам люди гетьмана гнали цілі села своїх же одноплемінників і продавали їх у рабство до Кафи. У цей же час очільник Січі дізнавшись про це, наказав знайти і покарати зрадників свого народу. Курінні козаки наздогнали три сотні работоргівців біля одного хутора, де вони були порубані на частини, позбавлені натільних хрестів і викинуті у річку, щоб земля українська не прийняла зрадників.
