Фільм розповідає про дружбу, кохання й ціну професії рятувальника в Японській береговій охороні. Чотирнадцять молодих офіцерів, серед них Дайсуке Сендзакі, проходять пекельні 50 днів підготовки, щоб стати водолазами-рятувальниками — елітою, до якої потрапляє лише один відсоток. Тренування вчить працювати в штормі, діяти на межі життя й смерті та довіряти напарнику більше, ніж собі. Після складання іспиту Сендзакі отримує перше призначення на старе рятувальне судно.
