IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE: Governments killing their own citizens for their political or spiritual beliefs. But it's never happened like this. It's happened so often that the world doesn't always pay attention. But is economic influence the reason, that this time, it's going largely unreported? It's hard to believe that doctors would carve up innocent people so their organs could be sold. It's even harder to believe that major media are not investigating. Yet it happened tens of thousands of times, and may be happening still. Hard to Believe is a documentary that examines the issue of forced live organ harvesting from Chinese prisoners of conscience, and the response-or lack of it-around the world. Produced by Swoop Films Kay Rubacek and Stone Soup Productions two-time Emmy Award-winning director/producer, Ken Stone, and Irene Silber.Written by

A documentary about two unlikely friends - a convicted murderer and a young, Canadian filmmaker. David McCallum is 29 years into a life sentence. Despite a mountain of evidence that should exonerate David, or at least grant him a new trial, filmmaker Ray Klonsky and a pro-bono team are stymied by a justice system that is not designed to free the wrongly convicted. When news of a DNA match that fingers a new suspect surfaces, the team thinks justice will finally be served. But they quickly learn their fight has only just begun. "I've thought about it and I could not see myself standing in front of anyone and admitting guilt in this crime, and if it takes me dying in prison, I will do that. I'd rather die in prison. And that's the truth." -David McCallum You've probably never heard of David McCallum - his case has not garnered the attention of Mumia Abu-Jamal or David Milgaard in Canada - but for a quarter century, in relative obscurity, he has been tirelessly fighting to overturn his 1985 conviction for murder. When Ray Klonsky, a troubled Toronto teenager, began a letter correspondence with David McCallum, both of their lives changed forever. David helped Ray straighten out and Ray, in turn, has sustained David with hope during imprisonment in a New York State penitentiary. But what started as a simple friendship became a fight for justice with high-powered lawyers, world-renowned experts - including Rubin 'The Hurricane' Carter - and concerned citizens coming together to fight for David's innocence and freedom. After befriending David, Ray set out to make a documentary about David's story, chronicling the ongoing efforts to fight his conviction. Now, nearly 10 years later, Klonsky and the team makes one final push for justice to be served. Cameras follow Ray every step of the way as they hit the streets in search of that one piece of evidence or witness testimony that could get the case back into court and ultimately free David. Reasonable Doubt is not just another wrongful conviction documentary; it is the real story of how a convicted murderer and a young Canadian filmmaker changed both of their lives forever.

Stolen Seas presents a chilling exploration of the Somali pirate phenomenon and forces you to rethink everything you thought you knew about pirates. It's November 8th, 2008 and the CEC Future, a Danish-owned merchant ship, is on high alert. Sailing inside the pirate-infested swath of sea between Somalia and Yemen, the ship's captain blinks hard at the radar screen where a light begins to flash. This is it, Nozhkin thinks, and he's right. Machine guns sound on the boat's hull and for two months this 13-man crew will be held at the mercy of Somali pirates, helpless as hostage negotiations threaten their lives and cameras capture every move. The pirates' translator, Ishmael Ali, a single dad who may or may not have stumbled into this controversial role, puts in a call to the shipping magnate's CEO Per Gullestrup demanding an exorbitant 7 million dollars. The shipowner's response is the first of many misfires and communications to come. These two adversaries will have to become unlikely allies as they race against time in an attempt to keep the crew from being killed by their violent captors. Stolen Seas documents the story of 13 powerless men trapped on a ship, and why their captors feel justified in their tyranny. It's the story of a Somali translator who get's in over his head -trying to give his son a chance. With first hand accounts from leading experts on the subject refuting the common misconceptions, Stolen Seas explores theories of what drives a country to piracy, from every point of view. It is a film about a country on the brink, at the mercy of global capitalism in overdrive, and young boys with nothing to loose.
