Бабетта, талановита кухарка, була змушена покинути все і втекти з Парижа, охопленого революцією. Жінка потрапляє до бідного рибацького села, у дім двох старих дів-пуританок. Леді вважають за гріх будь-яку їжу, крім вівсянки. Одного разу, вигравши велику суму у лотерею, Бабетта влаштовує для них справжній бенкет у найкращих французьких традиціях. За мотивами твору Ісака Дінесена (Карен Бліксен).
Сюжет

An uptight young man and his equally uptight family moves next door to a hedonistic clan, including the beautiful, sexy Topsy, who charms the new neighbor boy Tom. Uprooted from a Danish city, Tias, 14, and his kid sister Linda, settle in Sweden where their mother, a perpetual drifter, has decided to give a rural lifestyle a try. The siblings find a new friend in highly musical Tobby, but they also run into enemies and a mysterious neighbor. Is their house maybe haunted?

The early 1990's: 300,000 Danes are out of work. Viggo, a machinist with two grown children, is silent about feelings, scared he'll lose his job, loud about the value of trade unionism, interested in his pet fish, and argumentative at dinner. His wife Oda puts up with his moods and works on family genealogy. When Viggo is laid off, he becomes a fish out of water, hardly looking for work, starting a garden, and taking up with Karen, a polished but unhappy widow. He lies to his wife about a union training and goes to Mallorca with Karen. When she stops the affair, Viggo ends up in a psychiatric ward and must figure out what's really important in his life and in his character.

Seven years earlier, Hirata's parents had been killed in an accident in Iceland and Japanese tradition holds that their souls will not be at ease until the proper ceremonies have been performed. Thus, Hirata sets out on a journey, a quest to the river where his parents perished. Along the way, in this Icelandic-Japanese road movie, he encounters many difficulties, tough situations, and odd people in the land of fire and ice. Fridrik Thor Fridriksson's vision infuses Iceland's stark and beautiful landscape with a haunting spirituality.

Her adoptive father is a mean bastard, and incestive undertones lies in the relationship between the two. The daughter escapes from her adoptive father, turns up at Peter's place, and Carsten, Peter, and the daughter escapes to Sweden.
