Фільм розказує про Sonderkommandos – підрозділ, що складався з євреїв і працюючих при газових камерах. Вони допомагали роздягати в'язнів, забирали у них цінності і підштовхували їх в печі. Пізніше вони відмивали кров від стін газової камери і видаляли у трупів золоті зуби і волосся. Ті, хто відмовлялися, були застрелені. Після 14-годинної роботи члени Sonderkommando одержували хороше харчування, їм дозволяли палити, пити і читати в кварталах, окремих від інших ув'язнених.
