Elizabeth, a delivery girl, dreams of being a music-hall singer but she is refused at the first casting she takes part in. A bit depressed, she gets to know Victor, a would-be Shakespearean actor and another audition victim. When Victor quite unexpectedly gets a female part in a music-hall number he unfortunately finds himself voiceless. Why wouldn't Elizabeth replace him in it? Сюжет

Співачка на ім'я Вікторія голодує серед розкоші Парижа 30-х років. Вона володіє сильним і красивим сопрано. Коли Вікторія бере верхню ноту, келихи розбиваються вщент. Чому талановиту співачку не беруть на роботу в нічні клуби? Адміністратори цих закладів вважають, що у Вікторії дуже сірий імідж. Вікторія перевтілюється в чоловіка на ім'я Віктора і пробує себе на сцені в новому сценічному амплуа травесті. У екстравагантного Віктора з'являється безліч залицяльників, у тому числі молодий аристократ, який закохується у Віктора і не знає, що робити зі своїм, як він вважає, «одностатевим» коханням...

An out-of-work singer, Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews), meets a just-fired, flamboyant gay man in a diner in 1920's Paris.
