For the rest of his life, the ingenious curmudgeon built a homemade space rocket on his farm using scraps from the local hardware store. But, after a disastrous first launch burns down the neighbors' cornfields, Dario lands in jail. Enter Mario, his estranged brother who left the dying countryside for the big city: despite the confusion, he agrees to help Italy's 'secret space program' finally take off.

It's been seven years since film academy graduate Stefan Keller released his celebrated short film. Ever since, Keller has been in a creative crisis. Although he already filled 2000 pages with notes for his first feature film, the rough draft is far from finished. Much to the disappointment of his girlfriend Christina whose biological clock is ticking. Now, living in a basement room and in financial distress, Keller takes on a job as an anonymous tester of youth hostels. It's the beginning of a mad odyssey: Keller desperately fights for his film idea, tries to save his relationship and encounters strange characters and ordinary folk, all searching for the meaning of life.

What Freud does not know is that the patient is a vampire. The vain Countess incessantly complains about not being able to look at herself in a mirror, the count tells the professor. Unaware of the fact that the count and his wife are vampires, Freud introduces his mysterious patient to a young painter, Viktor, who paints portraits that express more than a mirror ever could. While visiting the painter, the count takes an instant shine to Viktor's girlfriend Lucy - more so than Viktor and the countess would like.
