Сюжет
У 1985 році двоє альпіністів - Джо Сімпсон і Саймон Етс - вирушили підкоряти західний схил Сеула Гранді в Перуанських Андах. Їхньою головною метою був семитисячник, що до цього часу ще не підкорився жодному альпіністові. Цей фільм-реконструкцію знято в досить незвичайній манері: у документальній частині Сімпсон і Атс через двадцять років розповідають, як усе було, у той же час, як молоді актори серед снігів і льоду грають їх жахливу історію. Джо Сімпсон ламає ногу. Атс вирішує спускати друга донизу. Крижана краса Анд виявляється жахом, від якого кров холоне в жилах. Присутність у кадрі живих прототипів героїв фільму розвіює сумніви про те, як усе закінчиться. Але, як не дивно, напруга від цього не слабшає. Він намагається зберігати гармонію з природою, однак невблаганний наступ цивілізації і зникнення незайманих лісів робить цю мету все більш нездійсненною... Ніколя Ваньє вперше звернувся до мистецтва кінематографа, однак його ім'я досить добре відомо - за останні півтора десятка років він опублікував кілька книг і фотоальбомів. Під час його знаменитої "Білої Одіссеї" - подорожі довжиною в 8600 кілометрів з узбережжя Аляски до канадського Квебека - Ваньє зустрів реально існуючого Нормана Вінтера, який дійсно вже давно ховається від руйнівної цивілізації в незайманих лісах Півночі. Ваньє вирішив зняти фільм про останнього мисливця, але тут, на погляд критиків, дещо помилився з формою - замість об'єктивної документальної стрічки Ваньє раптом зняв фільм ігровий. Тобто всі герої "Мисливця" грають самих себе, але при цьому за сценарієм режисера. І тому, при всій своїй неймовірній красі, фільм вийшов просвітницьким і повчальним - в дусі освітніх передач для школярів, а вкладені в уста головного героя слова звучать явно неприродно. Спроба, сама по собі, проте, цікава, а що до зайвого пафосу... краще просто дивитися і жалкувати про неможливість втраченої гармонії.Останній мисливець (2004)

His combination of pictures and text has a hypnotic effect on the viewer. It provides an exciting, dislocating and humorous adventure. In 1981, two 11-year-olds in Mississippi set out to remake their favorite film: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. With the help of all their friends, it took them seven years to complete in their basement.
