У центрі сюжету перебувають дві легенди – Ейпріл Ешлі та Аманда Лір, які оскаржили в суді громадської думки свою жіночу ідентичність. Першу з них назвали першопрохідницею, оскільки вона розповіла про свою трансгендерну історію. Водночас друга з них протягом десятків років свідомо заперечувала це і мовчала про своє минуле.
