Ічіка Куванокі — донька власників давнього рьотей-ресторану — лишається сам на сам із боргами та спогадами: чоловік не повернувся з війни, а єдиною пам’яткою став кухонний ніж. Вона прагне незалежності й іде працювати на кухню готелю, де панує західна кухня, щоб навчитися нового та вижити в зміненому світі. У 34 роки, аби врятувати родинну справу від фінансового краху, Ічіка укладає шлюб за розрахунком із Ямагучі Амане, молодшим на п’ятнадцять років. А вранці наступного дня на його місце прибула усміхнена і ще нічого непідозрююча молода жінка Кеко Отонасі, якій не тільки належало пізнати всі дивності і сумнівні звички мешканців Іккоку, але і зробити все, щоб виправити цих недбайливих і ледачих людей, а заразом і знайти своє щастя.
Сюжет
