Mo Alexander's bad luck is that she misses the plane in Paris carrying her tour group and her luggage. On top of this, she finds that it will take several days for the travel agent to work out the problem. In the meantime, Mo meets Xavier, a true Parisian, who sees Mo as an opportunity to enjoy himself while his family is out of town. Mo reluctantly begins an affair with him, and finds herself wrestling with her conscience. For Xavier, Mo is a challenge to his cultural identity making it difficult to dismiss her. They enjoy a beautiful physical and emotional relationship, and in the end, being in love with Mo has the ability to alter Xavier on a fundamental level.

Arnold's original material is a piece of found-footage from the 50s. 18 seconds long and very typical for the period. A quiet take: a living room, a woman in an arm-chair. Her husband opens the door, kisses her, then moves out of the picture accompanied by a disturbing pan, his wife follows him. In Arnold's film the sequence takes 16 minutes. Cadre by cadre, it becomes an exiting tango of movements. But pièce touchée is more than just a matter of forms. The reflections, distortions and delays it displays challenge Hollywood's stable system of space and time.

In 1920s Berlin, suicidal asylum patient Anna Anderson claims to be Anastasia Romanov, the supposedly dead daughter of the last tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, who got dethroned and murder by the communists along with his entire immediate family during the Russian Revolution. She is so convincing in her descriptions of her life on the court and how she escaped the communist purge that, after leaving the asylum, she slowly gains followers willing to believe her story. However, the surviving members of the Romanov family who now live in exile are not among them. This skepticism soon turns into mutual animosity.
