Джей Кокрен, льотчик ВВС США, звільнившись із армії приймає запрошення старого приятеля Тібурона Мендеса, мексиканського латифундиста, політика й, імовірно, великого мафіозі.Приїхавши в гості в Мексику, де, втім, Кокрен придбав невелику хатину у відокремленому гірському куточку, і зустрівши молоду й гарну Мірію, дружину Мендеса, він, забувши про небезпеку, віддається спаленілому жагучому почуттю. Але не так вже й легко провести Тібурона, який нещадно мстить своїй дружині й другові. Трагічний фінал «жорстокої мелодрами» неминучий.
