В одному королівстві жили три брати: Кунц, Франц і Клаус. Що б не починали старші брати робити, все у них не ладилося. Тільки у молодшого, працьовитого Клауса, робота кипіла. Але брати не помічали його і називали дурнем. Одного разу в королівстві сталася біда: перестала сміятися принцеса. Тільки смуток був на її обличчі. Ніхто не знав причини цієї раптової недуги. Король видав указ - кому вдасться розсмішити принцесу, той зможе одружитися з нею і стати спадкоємцем половини королівства. Старший і середній брат вирішують в числі перших піти до принцеси і розсмішити її. Клаус же в цей час вирушає у ліс. Там він знаходить золотого гусака, що володіє надзвичайними властивостями. З цим гусаком Клаус прямує до принцеси...
