A married couple have a small apartment in Moscow. When an old friend of the husband's arrives in the city, he is unable to find lodgings. Kolia, the husband, invites his friend to move in with them. While Kolia is away on business, sensual Liuda and attractive Volodia fall in love and have an affair. After his initial outrage, the husband calms down. Kolia winds up on the sofa, and the three settle into a menage-a-trois until the wife finds herself pregnant. The two men are trying to decide what to do, but Liuda is strong enough to make her own decisions. Considered a landmark film because of humor, naturalism, and its sympathetic portrayal of the woman.

The frogs have a democracy, but they beseech Jupiter to send them a king. Jupiter can hardly believe this amphibian foolishness, so he sends them a tree as king. The frogs make obeisance to their new monarch, but they are dissatisfied and petition Jupiter again. Now he sends a proper king with a crown, a stork. Frog ladies and gents turn out to see the new sovereign and bring tribute. The stork starts to eat the frogs. They beg Jupiter for help. Jupiter hurls down lightning bolts, while the king continues to eat his subjects. "Moral: Let well enough alone."

Волоцюга відвідує карнавал. Там кишеньковий злодій підкидає йому гаманець, щоб врятуватися від арешту. Волоцюгу звинувачують у крадіжці та йому доводиться тікати. Рятуючись від погоні Волоцюга опиняється на манежі цирку прямо під час вистави. Намагаючись сховатись від поліцейського він зриває виступ фокусника, але це дуже подобається публіці. Цирк переживає важкі часи та власник бере Волоцюгу на роботу, побачивши його успіх.
