Згадки про життя Якопо Тінторетто наповнене розбіжностями та пробілами. Відомо, що він народився у Венеції, а своє прізвисько Тінторетто отримав від батька, відомого фарбаря. Ще підлітком він вирішив навчатися живопису у Тиціана, але був вигнаний з його майстерні вже через 10 днів. Існує думка, що причиною стали творчі ревнощі майстра, який першим оцінив неабиякий хист талановитого хлопця.У своїх роботах Тінторетто зафіксував глибоку кризу ідеалів Ренесансу. Разом з тим, його твори за глибиною, значущістю й майстерністю не поступаються кращим роботам доби Відродження. Його бунтарське мистецтво, сповнене пристрасті й титанічної потужності яскраво описує емоційний стан цілої епохи.
Фільм розповість про усе найцікавіше з життя Тінторетто, яке за декілька століть обросло численними міфами й легендами. У компанії неперевершеної Гелени Бонем Картер ми вирушимо у подорож від початку творчого шляху італійського живописця, до часу, коли той перетворився на одного з найяскравіших представників високого венеціанського Відродження і маньєризму.
