Дебютант у кіно Конран переніс фантастичні події своєї картини у 1939 рік і стилізував стрічку під фільми й комікси того періоду. Демонстративно абсурдний, наївний сюжет, сіра, часом майже чорно-біла кольорова гама, навіть епізодична поява “кінематографічного привида”, легендарного Лоренса Олів’є – усе це використано для створення ретро-атмосфери, хоча у картині знайшлося місце і для величних спецефектів. Здійснити подорож у минуле, коли кіно ще не перетворилось з дива на просто розвагу, але при цьому бути озброєним сучасними технологіями – саме це намагався зробити режисер, проте зрозуміли його далеко не всі (у прокаті стрічка провалилась).
