У відсутність чоловіка вона купує новий будинок, в якому з нею починають траплятися дивні речі: Гвенді здається, що вона колись тут вже жила, що бачила тут бездушне тіло жінки і вбивцю з величезними, як мавпячі лапи, руками… Спогади повернулися неспроста: Гвенді загрожує смертельна небезпека. Проте на щастя, один з друзів Гвенди - містер Раймонд Вест, у якого є дивна тіточка - міс Джейн Марал.
