A story of a family of six who are coming from Urfa tries to survive economically in Istanbul.
Сюжет
A young German engineer photographs a beautiful Turkish woman without her permission. Her husband finds out and starts a fight. In the midst of the argument the German engineer accidentally kills the husband. With his burdened conscience, he goes out to Berlin's Turkish district to find the woman. He is spotted by her relatives, and while escaping, by strange coincidence he ends up hiding in the man's home whom he has killed. According to Turkish customs, a guest in one's household must be treated with dignity and respect even if he is the enemy. Thus, the tension and difficulties among the Turkish family and the German engineer begin. As long as he stays he will survive, but how long can he live in the home of a man he murdered?

Mahsun is homeless and unemployed. He lives in Rumelihisari (one of the most picturesque and oldest quarters of Istanbul), and tries to stay alive with the help of local fishermen. Mahsun loves cars, he steals at nights and in the mornings he drives them back clean and well kept. He lives to emphasize the strange togetherness of possibilities and impossibilities. In this togetherness, Mahsun experiences friendship, trust, a one-way love affair and torture. He insists to survive in his open-air coffin of ancient Istanbul streets.

Having adopted communism as his life philosophy, he reflects his thinking in his art, and is continuously chased by the police as a result. Every move he makes, every word he writes or says is under the close scrutiny of the state. During World War II, the poet Nâzim Hikmet is arrested once more because of his communist links. This time the military court sentences him to 28 years in jail. In the course of his long imprisonment, he transforms the prison into a school and workshop, encouraging his fellow inmates to use their time productively. Throughout these dark years he manages to sustain his courage and passion by creating immortal works, imagining a world with freedom of thought.
