Після смерті Ертугрула кермо влади турецькими землями перейшло до його спадкоємця, 23-річного Османа I Газі. Юнакові дісталася територія Фрігії, проте амбітного вождя це не влаштовувало. Незважаючи на малий досвід, молодий правитель почав успішно розширювати межі своєї країни. Найбезстрашнішим воїном його армії був сам Осман: він завжди знаходився в гущі подій, подаючи братам по зброї гідний приклад.
