Аудіовізуальна симфонія про індустріальне, аграрне та культурне життя Донбасу першої радянської п’ятирічки. Особливий акцент фільм робить на антирелігійні кампанії, агітаційних марші, а також фізкультурний побут доби. Перший звуковий фільм українського кіно Авангардист та апологет неігрового кіно Дзиґа Вертов з соратниками-кіноками Михаїлом Кауфманом та Єлізавєтою Свіловою переїхав працювати в Україну на ВУФКУ в 1927 році. Тут йому вдалося зняти три фільми й саме тут, в «Людині з кіноапаратом» (1929), вдалося реалізувати його давні задуми та експерименти описані ще в його першому маніфесті 1918 року. Проте лише в «Ентузіязмі» вдалося вперше створити давно омріяний звуковий (радіо-, тон-) фільм.
