На стилізованій сцені театру Но розгортається трагічна історія лейтенанта Сіндзі Такеями та його дружини Рейко. Після невдалого військового перевороту 1936 року офіцер отримує наказ стратити своїх товаришів, але не може зрадити ні честь, ні дружбу. Перед обличчям неминучого він проводить останню ніч із дружиною в атмосфері любові, відчаю та приреченості. Разом вони обирають шлях спільної смерті: він здійснює сеппуку, а вона слідує за ним. Фільм перетворює ритуал смерті на поетичне розмірковування про обов’язок, патріотизм, кохання й самознищення.

Smith's third feature film was originally titled "The Kidnapping of Wendell Willkie by the Love Bandit," in reaction to the 1968 Presidential Campaign. It mixes B&W footage of Smith's creatures with old campaign footage of Willkie, a liberal Republican who ran against FDR in the 1940's. The climax of the work appears to be the "auctioning" of the presidential candidate at a convention.

They escape from the police siege in a slum in a hill and hide in an isolated house. When the owner arrives with two friends, they kill the man and submit the two women to many humiliations, before killing them. While moving to another place, they leave a trail of blood, cowardly executing many persons.
