Сюжет
Карл Копфрінгл, працівник крематорію в невеликому чеському містечку, виконує свою роботу з відданістю: перед тим, як кремувати тіло, він завжди гарно його оформлює. Дружина, син і донька Копфрінгла теж не можуть поскаржитися на брак уваги. Незабаром Чехія потрапляє до рук нацистів. Крематор пам'ятає, що в його жилах тече німецька кров, і відчуває можливості для просування. На жаль, його дружина наполовину єврейка, а син дружить з євреями. In a suburban villa, a woman of means is murdered.
