About a half dozen passengers, a clergyman, a captain and boson are aboard a sea tossed vessel. As it lurches several of the passengers are sea-sick and throwing up into bowls held by other passengers. Meanwhile a male passenger downs a drink. When the seas get even rougher the most of the passengers head below. The clergyman, however, is knocked off his feet and falls through a hatchway. As he tries to get back on deck the tossing becomes even more turbulent causing most to lose their footing. All go below except for the captain who has stayed at his post throughout this whole event.

The scene opens in an artist's studio where the unfinished statue of William Tell stands upon a pedestal. A clown appears and sticks a clay arm and clay head on the statue, thus completing it. He places a large brick on top of the head to make it stick. When he turns his back the statue turns into a living representation of William Tell, and seizing the brick from the top of his head, hits the clown a heavy blow upon the back. After some very strange happenings, the mysterious William Tell finally vanishes in a cloud of smoke, and the clown jumps up from the floor and makes his exit in a very ludicrous manner.

Nevertheless, she is captured by Momba, the Wicked Witch of the West (suggesting Baum thought the other witches were Mombe, Mombo, and Mombu, in keeping with the council in _Queen Zixi of Ix_) and her flying lizards and soldiers. Dorothy defeats Momba, and they arrive at the Emerald City just in time for the Wizard's going away party.

The man attempts to move the guard but a devil appears and waves the man away. The man recoils from the devil and tries to leave but the Spector reappears. Both it and the devil frighten the man from the antechamber.
